  Back to Kids' Voices Lindsey

Lindsey was diagnosed on October 28th 2004 with type 1 diabetes. We brought her in to see if she needed a flu shot and happened to ask a couple of questions, one was why she was excessively thirsty and the other was why she started wetting the bed and her pants so much. They took a urine sample and they said everything was fine and to just start potty training her again.

Well, a couple of hours later they called back and said they found high levels of sugar in her urine and that she possibly had diabetes, so we had to go back in to have blood tests done and then sent to the Children's Hospital where we spent 3 days learning about the disease and what we needed to do.

It's really hard on her having to have her finger poked and getting shots of insulin all the time but she's come along way from when we took her in and now she doesn't mind it done, at least most of the time! She seems to be doing pretty good now and hopefully that cure will come along soon!

From,
Lindsey and her Mom Maria
