Hi, my name is Alana. I am nine years old and live in Northern Maine. I just found out three weeks ago that I have type 1 diabetes. I was very shocked and a little scared. I spent three days in the hospital learning all about diabetes. I don't like pricking my finger at all but since I got a new poker it's not so bad. I started giving myself my own injections when mom isn't around.
Besides my mom and dad I have a big brother named Cole who is 12 and a dog named Ozzy, a cat named Domino and a fish named Squirt. I love to swim, play soccer and cross country ski. I even got a racing bib from one of the world's top cross country ski athletes who also has type 1 diabetes. That made me feel happy to know I can still ski and play sports.
I start school in two weeks and found out that there will be two more kids at my school that also have diabetes. I would like to talk to other kids who also have diabetes. You can e-mail me at
