  Back to Kids' Voices Sofia

Hi! My name is Sofia. I am 9 years old and in the fourth grade. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes September 3, 2005. I had started drinking a lot and going to the bathroom a lot. I started getting very thin. I mean, thinner than usual. I've never been that large. Finally my Mum got so worried that she took me to the doctor. I had ketones in my urine, so my parents took me to Sick Kids Hospital. They took my blood and I was 42.0 mmol/l (756 mg/dl). I spent 3 days in the hospital and they were really nice.

I am going to get a pump soon (I can hardly wait). I go to Birchcliff Public School. I run cross country and play soccer. I also really like French class.

I would like to hear from other kids who have diabetes and enjoy playing sports.

If you would like to contact me, please write to: sofia.jarvis AT rogers.com. Hope to hear from you soon.

Sofia

Here I am on a hike with my brother and parents in Algonquin Park just a few weeks before being diagnosed with diabetes!
