  Back to Kid' Voices Catherine

Hi! My name is Catherine. I am 13 and have had diabetes for a little more than a year and a half.

I was diagnosed with diabetes on August 21 2006. I was away from my immediate family and all the way across the country from them. I was, at the time visiting my family in California with my family from Vermont.

It was summer so my parents hadn't notice I was drinking unusual amounts of water because I had been to a lot of active camps.

My aunt drove me to the hospital on the last day of my visit because I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed. I've been told that my blood sugar was around 750 and I would have died very soon if I didn't get insulin. My parents arrived from Massachusetts late that night.

I have been using the OmniPod pump since January 9th 2007 and I really like it. It allows me to eat what I want when I want without having to give my self a shot. I would recommend it to anyone who could get it and was looking for an insulin pump.

You can e-mail me at crallen95 AT comcast.net.
