Hi. My name is Melisa and I am 5 1/2. I live in Istanbul, Turkey. I got diabetes on May 15, 2008. The first signs I had were being overly hungry, then I get really thirsty, and then I was urinating a lot. My mommy was getting worried that I might have a bladder infection,we went to the doctor and that is when we found out I had ketones in my urine. So we went immediately to the hospital. They took my blood and the sugar level was 530, so we stayed in the hospital for a two weeks. I do not mind the finger tests, and only get insulin twice a day. I am on a 2000 calorie diet. They believe that I may be going through the honeymoon phase. My favorite things to do are riding my bike, going swimming, and playing with my brother (who is not diabetic) and my younger 3 1/2 year old. Thank you for reading my story.
