Hi. My name is Hakeem. I'm 11 going to the sixth grade in September 2008. I was diagnosed on June 9, 2008 with type 1 diabetes. I wasn't feeling good for a couple of weeks. I was going to the bathroom a lot, feeling out of energy, thirsty, sleepy and grumpy. The morning of the I found out I threw up three times. I lost 15 pounds in two weeks. Then my dad noticed something was wrong so my dad took me to the doctor and then he told me YOU HAVE DIABETES! I wasn't sad, I didn't cry once. Then I had to go a hospital in New Jersey where I stayed for a week, then I went home. When I came back everybody was giving me hugs and stuff. Some days I wake up and forget I have it but then I have to check my sugar and take shots.
