  Back to Kid' Voices Zac

Hi. My name is Zac and I would like to tell you my diabetes story. It started the summer of 2007, right before I started 5th grade. I was so thirsty and drinking all the time. I was hungry too and eating, but losing weight. I was 10 years old. I went to the doctor and she sent me to get my blood checked, which confirmed that I had Type 1 Diabetes and had to go to the hospital right away.

The first night was terrible and confusing. I felt this was the worst thing that could happen, but my mom said that our normal routine was just going to change. Now we have a different normal.

I just turned 12 and I'm in middle school now. I am learning to control it, not for it to control me. Sometimes I still don't remember check my blood sugar. And sometimes I have a problem because some kids are eating candy in my class and I can't have any. I am still really active. I like to snowboard, play soccer, scuba dive and I am a really good hip hop dancer. If you want to be a penpal, write me at jeta330 AT bellsouth.net.
