  Back to Kid' Voices Emily

My name is Emily and I'm 11 years old (12 in August)! Here is my story.

It all started seven years ago. I had just turned four about 3 months prior. I can't really remember but I guess I had the obvious signs, going to the loo more, moody, sleepy, thirsty, etc.

I went to the doctor's office. The doctor must have told Mammy something because she became upset. I was sitting on the floor playing with a doll house. I had no idea that in that split second my life had changed.

The next thing I remember, was Mammy telling me we were going to stay in my cousin's house -- a sleep over! She told me to pack my things and so I did. I had no clue we were going to Dublin from Carlow!

In case I was wondering why we were in the hospital, Mammy told me we were going to visit my other cousin. Next thing I knew, nurses were poking a needle at me. Little did I know that there would be many more needles to follow! I was in a ward. Every time I had to go to the toilet, it was sampled and tested. I had to get a lot of needles that week. I cried at first. Now i have lots of support.

I'm not on the pump yet but hope to be this year.

My role model is Nick Jonas! My number one tip would be to tell a friend about everything so when you meet someone new they can explain for you!

Please e-mail me at . I would love to hear from you,

Emily.
