Hi, I'm Brendan and I was diagnosed with diabetes in January 2005. It's been four years now and I'm two months away from turning thirteen. When I was diagnosed I was thirsty a lot and going pee like every 20 minutes. My mom thought I had a bladder infection so she took me to the doctor. He checked my blood and did some tests and about twenty minutes later he said I have type 1 diabetes. At the time I thought it was just a virus and I was kind of happy that I got a free coloring book.
But when he said I had to go to the hospital I started getting a bit scared.I stayed in the hospital for three days. My hospital experience was kind of weird because I cried when they tested my blood. I'd never do that now.
I'm in seventh grade now and I'm completely used to diabetes. I play football all the time and I really like video games. My favorites are the Call of Duty series.
My only advice for a person who has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes is stay strong and eventually you'll be used to it.
It would be cool if I could talk with others who deal with this everyday. Email me at
