Hello! My name is Cristiana. I am twelve years old and I attend the seventh grade.
I live in Bergamo, Italy and was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, when I was 9. When I was diagnosed my blood sugar was 700 mg/dl and my HbA1c 10.7; at that time I was going to the bathroom and drinking a lot. I spent seven days in my local hospital, where I met my educator, dietician and diabetologist.
After being on four shots (Lantus and Humalog) for a few months, on the advice of my diabetologist, Giuseppe Lepore, MD, I got a Paradigm 522 insulin pump and I like it a lot. Then I started to also use continuous glucose sensors: now my HbA1c is 5.5.
I like being with friends, dancing and singing. My best friend is Stefania, also diabetic. My favorite tv show is "Patty's World." I would like to study medicine at university and become a diabetologist.
