Hey! My name is Katie. I'm from Indiana. I love playing tennis and swimming. I have an 18 year old brother and an 8 year old brother. I'm going to be a junior in high school in the fall 2010.
I am 16 years old and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 15 on January 19, 2010. I have had it for about 5 months.
During the winter of 2010, I was not feeling well. It wasn't like I had the flu, I just was exhausted, and it had been going on for weeks. I was going to the bathroom often, drinking water nonstop, and getting leg cramps during exercise. I was crying a lot and I was very emotional. Also, my vision got increasingly worse. My eye doctor recommended that I see a doctor.
I went to the pediatrician and she checked my blood sugar. It was in the 400's. Then I was driven to Riley Hospital, and they told me I had type 1 diabetes. I stayed there for 3 days. I learned all about it and all the things I would need to do to take care of myself.
Now, I'm doing almost all of the things I want to do (including getting my license :D) and am managing it the best I can. I have had a few emotional struggles, but I've talked to some diabetic teenagers in my town.
I just started my Medtronic Paradigm 522 insulin pump on July 20, 2010.
I would love to talk to teenagers with diabetes, male or female. My e-mail is .
Please email me, i'll write back ! (:
Thanks for reading,
