The Derrick Family

Our family picture the first year after Drew's diagnosis (January 2002, 2 1/2 years old). He will be turning 5 in 2005 and is looking forward to starting Kindergarten. He played baseball last year and is anticipating both baseball and soccer this year. He amazes me everyday with his good nature. He shares his diagnosis with his 72 year old grandfather. He was diagnosed when he was 21 years. We are looking at going to the pump in March. Investigating all the options ... any info would be appreciated. Right now using Lantus/Humalog. A meal plan is a joke at our home. This boy can eat, however he grazes all day. Big brother Lane is patient and concerned with his brother. However, he wants to make sure that he keeps Drew in line. Brotherly Love....nuff said! My husband, Kenny and I have a wonderful support with his family. Since his dad has dealt with Diabetes for 50 years, the boys spend a lot of time with their grandparents. Our prayers, like all of yours -- A CURE TOMORROW!

Kenny, Michelle, Lane (6 years old) and Drew (4 years old)
