The Southard Family

Shannon was diagnosed at age 6 on Thanksgiving Day 1996. She began pumping insulin with the HTron+ at age 9 in November 1999, and upgraded to the Cozmo at age 13 in August 2003. She is doing wonderfully at the moment! Shannon is one of 8 children, whom we homeschool. We are a retired Navy family (as of 2002) and live on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington State. Kerri and Scott facilitate 2 support groups for military families of children with diabetes – one in Bremerton (Navy) and one in Tacoma (Army). Kerri is also a camp counselor for 10-11 year old girls at a local diabetes camp every August, and eventually plans to become a CDE. Children with Diabetes is the first place we send people for diabetes information. It has been a blessing for us!
