When do you or your child test for urine ketones?
Poll dates: May 2 - 9, 1999
Total Votes: 615Testing for urine ketones when you're ill or have very high blood sugar is an essential part of good diabetes management. The presence of ketones can indicate insufficient insulin, for example, which can lead to ketoacidosis, a potentially life-threatening condition. Early detection of ketones, coupled with treatment using extra fast-acting insulin (Humalog or Regular), can help prevent ketoacidosis.
