How many visits did you make to your doctor before you were correctly diagnosed with diabetes?

Poll dates: April 29 - May 6, 2001
Total Votes: 824

Just under one-third of respondents report making more than one trip to the doctor before their diabetes was correctly diagnosed. Since undiagnosed diabetes, particularly Type 1 diabetes, can be life threatening, early diagnosis is important to reduce the risk of DKA.

Remember the three most common symptoms of Type 1 diabetes:

  • Polydipsia (excessive thirst)
  • Polyuris (excessive urination)
  • Weight loss
Other symptoms include yeast infections, dehydration, vomiting, lethargy, confusion, extreme thirst, bedwetting, and a fruity odor to breath. If you or someone you know has these symptoms, see your doctor right away and insist on a blood glucose test.
