In the past year, how many times have you tested for ketones?
Poll dates: September 7 - 14, 2003
Total Votes: 573In last week's poll, we asked readers to tell us when they checked for ketones. This week, we asked readers to tell us how many times per year they had to check for ketones.
Over half of our readers (56%) report testing a few times per year or less. Just under one-fifth (18%) report testing every month, and 10% report testing almost once a week.
For people who check ketones frequently, urine test strips in a vial are the most economical, costing as little as 16 cents per strip. For those who test infrequently, foil wrapped ketone strips are a better choice because vials expire 90 days after opening. Foil wrapped strips cost about 40 cents per strip, but you don't waste lots of strips due to expiration.
For people who check blood ketones using the MediSense Precision Xtra, ketone test strips cost about $30 for eight, or about $3.75 per test. If you test infrequently, this cost can be easy to bear. If you test several times per week, however, the price of blood ketone test strips can quickly add up.
