Studies of continuous glucose sensors hint at the enormous potential that these devices will have in improving diabetes care -- even though these devices are very much "first generation" products. With the dawn of continuous sensing upon us, we asked our readers what they thought was most important for the next generation of sensors.
32% of respondents said that insurance reimbursement is the most important factor for the next generation of continuous sensors, down from 40% in January 2007. This could mean that more people are getting coverage, which we are hearing anecdotally in our mailing lists and in our forums. Still, a large number of people see insurance coverage as the most important "next step" in continuous sensors.
