Pump users often wonder about how many different basal rates they need during the day to maintain optimum blood sugar control. Different diabetes teams offer different advice, and there seems to be no real consensus. So we asked our readers what they actually use.
About 46% of our readers who use insulin pumps report using four or fewer basal rates in their main basal profile. About one-tenth (11%) report using seven or more basal rates. This graph shows the distribution of rates:
