Does your child have a 504 plan for diabetes care at school? Poll dates: August 18 - 25, 2010 Total Votes: 185 In the US, children with diabetes are protected from discrimination at school by federal law. Any school that receives federal funding must accommodate the special needs of kids with diabetes. Parents define any special accommodations using a 504 plan and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Without a 504, school staff may not know about a child's special needs, so preparing a 504 is very important. Even high school kids with diabetes need a 504 plan, notably to detail how standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT are to be handled.
