When you're checking your blood sugar, nothing's more frustrating than getting an error message from your meter instead of a glucose reading. Insufficient blood volume is a very common cause of errors, and while today's meters require only miniscule amounts of blood, you can still get errors from too little blood. There are other sources of errors also. We asked our readers about their experiences with error messages.
The good news is that almost half of our readers report getting errors less than once a month, if ever. The bad news is that 23% report getting errors once a week or more.
If you're getting errors a lot when checking your blood sugar, ask your diabetes team to review your technique at your next clinic visit. They may be able to offer you some helpful hints to make checking your blood sugar less frustrating.
