Speaker’s Notes:
(1)General introduction, novelty of approach-to help you help
your patients better! Clearly present credentials that qualify you to do
presentation.
(2)Smile, be warm & engaging; ask audience how many of
them have encountered problems in getting patients to be adherent to medical
regimens.
(3)Tell audience that they will learn some new ways of looking
at & addressing an old problem; they can use the tools they’ll learn to
day to be more clinically effective, reduce HCP burnout, etc.
(4)SUGGESTION: As part of your general introduction you might
want to start by talking about the DCCT and results and how difficult it’s
been for clinicians to translate lessons into practice-this presentation will
help them do it.
(5)Transition to next slide by stating 3 take-home message
points: 1. Expand definition of “patient” to include the whole family 2. In
children, particularly teens, non-adherence & mismanagement should be
treated as any other act of misbehavior & 3. In adults, it’s important to
focus on general issues of trust, intimacy & sharing.
