BOSTON- State Senator Jo Ann Sprague (R-Walpole) of the Bristol and Norfolk District is pleased to announce that Senate Bill 2231, An Act Authorizing Self-Monitoring and Treatment of Students with Diabetes, also known as "Ashley's Bill" was enacted in both the House and Senate and laid before the Governor for his signature.
The bill, named after Seekonk resident, Ashley Dacanay, will allow students with diabetes to monitor and self administer treatment. Senator Sprague filed the bill on Ashley's behalf, who along with her mother, Cindy, often came to the State House to testify and lobby on behalf of the bill.
Sprague said, "I am so pleased that the Legislature has passed this important piece of legislation. Allowing intelligent, mature students like Ashley Dacany to administer their own treatment makes life a bit easier for students suffering with this disease that they must deal with everyday of their lives."
The bill was signed by Governor Romney's on December 30, 2004.
