ECWDF Announces Scholarships for Friends for Life 2005

Eleven families were recently selected for the first scholarships awarded by the newly formed Education for Children With Diabetes Foundation.

The scholarships, valued at about $1,400 each, will cover the costs for the families to attend the 2005 Children With Diabetes Friends for Life Annual Conference at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida (July 6-10, 2005).

More than 20 families of children with Type I Diabetes applied for the scholarships. Awardees were chosen based on factors that included their enthusiasm for sharing their diabetes knowledge with others in their communities; track record of involvement in diabetes education outreach; and their stated inability to afford the conference expenses without financial aid.

Education for Children With Diabetes Foundation funded the scholarships with donations from Children With Diabetes (CWD) (from bracelet sales) and from Sugarbash, a nonprofit volunteer organization in Florida that raises funds for diabetes research and education.

Education for Children With Diabetes Foundation was formed to address many diabetes education needs. The organization has applied for 501c(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service.
