The Leach Family, Emmitsburg, Maryland
Welcome to Maryland, Ruby! She arrived just as I (Jen, 18) was leaving for work. After a quick wardrobe change we were off to waitressing. Ruby liked meeting all of the new people-there were lots of Type 2s visiting last night. She was suprised at how many people were eating out on a rainy Friday. I had to explain that while I work, I mix regular soda with diet so that I do not become too low, and I also check my bg's often. After work we went out with my friend, John. We visited his aunt because she has been awaiting Ruby's arrival since we first knew she was coming. John, Ruby, and I drove home in the rain. When Ruby and I got home there were welcome balloons, a card, flowers, and a bed ready for Ruby. My mom was very excited to see Ruby. Because it was so late, we went right to bed. This morning, my mom, Ruby, and I headed off to Weight Watchers. Ruby liked seeing all of the nice people, but she didn't want to volunteer any answers. All of us came home and Jen went off to work! again. Tonight her mom is going to take care of Ruby, I wonder what they will do?
Last night Jen's parents and I watched baseball games. We were very suprised that the Orioles won a game. Jen came home from work very tired and she slept until after 1 pm today (Go Pumps!). Then we went shopping for school-Jen leaves for college in a week. I can't wait until I (Ruby) get to go to college, I wonder where I will go. Oh, well, it's time for church; we'll write later.
Today, Jen went to her school to approve the classes she will be taking in Spain in the spring. We also ran some other errands-we were even planning on going swimming but then the skies opened and it poured rain, so we thought it wasn't safe to swim. Ruby confided that she missed all of her new friends that she has met along the way, she asked me to say "Hi" to everyone to whom she has been introduced.
