The Chernick Family, Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada February 18, 2004 My name is Katherine and I am 8 years old. I'm in grad 2. I've had diabetes since I was 6. Today, Ruby, Rufus, and me played the SpongeBob Squarepants board game. Ruby won. Rufus is my other teddy bear with diabetes. Me and Ruby went sledding. February 19, 2004 Today we are going to have a tea party. My Auntie with diabetes came over here today. February 22, 2004 On Friday, me and Ruby did lots of stuff. I was going to take Ruby shopping, but my mom wouldn't let me because someone might have stolen her. We bought lots of groceries and I got to buy some string and beads to make Ruby a necklace. There were some people moving into a house, so me and Ruby went to say hi, but Ruby got too scared so we came home. Yesterday, me and Ruby didn't do too much because I got sick and I didn't want to throw up on her, so I set her aside for the rest of the day. Today me and Rufus and Ruby are going to make medical alert bracelets. February 27, 2004 (from Mrs. Ford, Katherine's teacher) It was great to have Ruby at our show and tell today. She was a real hit! Ruby spent the day with our grade two class. It was snowing outside, so Katherine found a toque and mittens for Ruby to wear. Ruby helped us build a little snow fort. She had fun playing on the playground equipment. Ruby helped Katherine and her grade five reading buddy write a poem. She was a very neat printer… just like Katherine! In the afternoon, lots of the children brought their bears to school so that Ruby would have more friends to play with. Ruby has had lots of fun today. Next time she comes to Canada, she will remember to wear a coat! It is cold in Saskatchewan this time of year! February 28, 2004 Today, Kelsey came over. We were going to play with Ruby, but we didn't. Today we are having a sleepover. Today Mrs. Ford, my teacher, found a necklace that had snowflakes on it. It looked pretty. Mrs. Ford put it on Ruby to keep! March 2, 2004 Today, I'm teaching Ruby how to breakdance. I am also drawing her a picture tomorrow. March 6, 2004 Today, I taught Ruby how to play on my gameboy advance. I also taught her how to play the piano. I think she liked it! My brother got a new game for the computer. It's called Rollercoaster Tycoon. Ruby watched me play it and tomorrow I am going to teach her how to play it. March 7, 2004 Today, me and Ruby went to my grandma's house. Ruby also helped me with my piano. I'm going to draw a picture for Ruby. Tomorrow, Ruby has to go home. I'm going to miss Ruby lots. We had lots of fun together. Bye-bye, Ruby. Love, Katherine
