I am 8 years old. Today I got Ruby. My name is Natasha. I was diagnosed last year after my 7th birthday. I'm going to bring Ruby to school tomorrow. I have two teachers that have diabetes also. I'm going to bring Ruby to the Wisconsin Dells next Sunday and we are coming back on Tuesday.

Natasha took Ruby to school today and met all her friends and teachers. She even had her picture taken with her classmates. They all enjoyed meeting with Ruby.
November 7, 2002
Ruby got to meet a friend of Natasha's today. They had fun playing outside on Natasha's new swing set. Natasha's friend Haley got to stay overnight with her and Ruby.

Haley, Natasha, and Ruby went to McDonald's with Grandma Lawler. They all enjoyed playing there together. Then it was time to say good-bye to Haley to head on home to clean Natasha's room. What a mess!

Natasha, Ruby, and Mom and Dad all went to a hotel with waterslides in Wisconsin Dells. We left Ruby in the room today because we didn't want to get her wet.

Natasha (as well as her parents) were having such a good time swimming and going down the slides that we decided to bring Ruby and let her see how much fun we were having. Natasha showed her how she could go down the big red slide by herself! Mom doesn't care for the red slide at all, so she sat with Ruby. Natasha's sister Rachel came for the day to swim before she had to go to work. She didn't get to swim very much because Natasha got pretty low and wanted to go lie down for awhile. After resting with Ruby by her side, she started to feel better.

Time to leave from our short vacation. We all stopped to eat lunch and then we stopped at a deer farm. Ruby helped Natasha feed the animals. The goats almost got Ruby! We had to keep her in Natasha's coat so they wouldn't get her! We all headed for home - we were all tired.
November 14, 2002
Ruby has been by Natasha's side while she's doing her make-up homework. Natasha's a great student so it didn't take long for her to complete it.
November 15, 2002
Natasha's not feeling very well today. Mom took Natasha to the doctor. She doesn't have strep, but her throat is red. She came home and rested.
November 16, 2002
Ruby, Natasha and Mom met Dad at Urgent Care. Natasha has an ear infection (wish it was detected the day before!). The doctor thought that Ruby was real cool! Dad went back to work and we went to get the medicine. Ruby has helped out tremendously for support.

It's time to get Ruby packed up for the next family. Everyone in the family has enjoyed having Ruby here and reading all the stories. I think (Mom) that this is a super idea and it was a great opportunity for Natasha to have had Ruby here. She really does bring some "healing" and "comfort." Thanks so much.
