The Rothweiler Family, Falmouth, Maine
June 26, 2003
Hi. I am Steffi Rothweiler. I'm 9 years old. I've had diabetes for 3 ½ years. I have a mom, dad, and a sister. Oh year, I do have a brother. My brother and sister are twins. Enough about them, more about me. When I got Ruby, I had already had Rufus for a month.
That night, we were going to a Sea Dogs game (our team). We had a sky box room for my family and friends. I had a ball at the game because all my friends were there. I don't know if they won. When we were there, slugger gave me a big hug. So, I got my picture with him.
The biggest thing I did with Ruby and Rufus was we went on a lobster boat called the Lucky Catch. The best thing about the lobster boat was that the TV station was there. They had the huge video camera and everything. They got close ups of Ruby, Rufus, and me. They interviewed me. That night at 5:00 on channel 13 news, I was on tv! They got me putting the fisherman's coat on and talking, and they also got me leaving to catch the lobsters.
On the lobster boat, we caught many lobsters, but none of them were big enough so we had to throw them back. We also caught lots of crabs, and only one of them we could keep because the other ones were too mean.
And that is what I did with Ruby.
I love Ruby.
Today, I am leaving for Clara Barton camp, but it doesn't start until tomorrow. So, I'm going to my best friend's house. Her name is Clare. She moved this year.

Steffi had a great time with Ruby visiting. We did a lot of fun things - Sea Dogs baseball game, visiting our house on Rangeley Lake, and taking Ruby and Rufus on a lobster boat. We got to haul up the traps and measure the size (they were all too small to keep!). The tv station came to interview Steffi before she got on the boat and she showed them Ruby. Steffi is now at Clara Barton Camp for girls with diabetes. Ruby visited her, but came home. Good-bye, Ruby!
