The Tweed Family, Madison, Wisconsin October 3, 2003 Our first adventure with Ruby was going to dinner at Grandma's house in Waunakee. Grandma gave us two pins to share with Ruby - a Bucky Badger (the mascot of University of Wisconsin - Madison) and a Waunakee pin. Ruby got to have her own special chair at the dinner table so that she could enjoy our first chili or chicken noodle soup of the winter season. October 4, 2003 Today "Team Tweed" participated in Madison's Walk for Diabetes sponsored by the ADA. Team Tweed includes everyone in our immediate family (Dad Steve; Stepmom Krista; Jennifer, 14; Stephanie, 11, dx'd October 98; and Tyler, 5, dx'd 3/21, 2003, and Grandpa Ted who has type 2 diabetes). Our team raised $3,937 this year - we know the researchers will put it to good use! Ruby and Tyler's Rufus rode in the stroller for the whole walk. We all had fun! After the walk, we headed to Lake Mills for Stephanie's football game. Steph is the only girl on the 6th grade tackle football team. She plays lineman and did a great job of really sticking to her man today! October 5, 2003 Stephanie took Ruby with her to Sunday School this morning. Her teacher was so impressed, he counted Ruby as a guest. The teacher has challenged the kids to bring 45 guests by the end of the year and they earn an overnight lock-in at All-Star Gymnastics. Ruby took a nap with Tyler this afternoon. It's been a busy weekend! October 6, 2003 Steph took Ruby to school today: Ruby got introduced in Social Studies today and also took a spelling test. She got to hear the 6th grade band and bounce on the trampoline after school. She got called 'cute' all day and after school was taken to the food pantry where she helped clients. October 7, 2003 Ruby spent this day at the high school with Jennifer. Jen said people kept commenting all day about how cute Ruby was. Of course! October 8, 2003 Ruby went to Kindergarten with Tyler today. A few of her pins lost their backs, so we're going to go to the craft store and get new ones so she will be all set to travel back to Michigan this weekend. October 12, 2003 We got our pictures added, so it's about time to send Ruby on her way home. We enjoyed her visit and looking through her journal. We're glad she could come!
