Tuesday was a public holiday, being Heritage Day. A lady called Susan brought Rufus to my house during the afternoon. Yesterday I was diabetic for three years, so it was exciting to have Rufus to stay. Today was also my brother's party. He had seven boys to sleep over. Rufus watched my brother, his friends and I swimming, braaing and playing cricket. My brother gave Rufus and I some of his birthday cake. It was a huge chocolate cake with smarties on the top of the cake. I had done so much exercise that the cake did not affect my blood sugar levels. Later on, we went ten pin bowling. Rufus really enjoyed bowling as he had never been to a bowling rink before. We had a late night as we only came home at 10:00 p.m.

Another exciting day ahead. Today is my aunty's birthday. My mom and dad allowed me to go to an adult's restaurant with Rufus and my aunty. Rufus enjoyed a big chicken and a delicious salad. Then I felt a bit dizzy when we got home so tested my blood sugars and it was 3.3. I was so pleased to have a really nice large snack and some mini Astros. It is school holidays at this week so I can play with Rufus the whole day and get lots of exercise.

My mom and I went shopping today with Rufus. Rufus was naughty. He bought some sweets and an ice-cream. He got tired of walking so he landed up in a huge packet. My mom and I shopped for clothes and we walked a mini marathon. We were so tired that we went to a coffee shop and we had muesli, fruit and yogurt and for a treat had a cappuccino. Rufus had his own one and he was so full that he could hardly walk. We went to a CD shop to buy a present for his birthday the next day. That afternoon we made another huge chocolate birthday cake. I had to swim lots of lengths to have a lick of the bowl. We have been very naughty and went out for dinner again. I had some lovely pasta which I shared with Rufus.

Rufus and I had to get up really early as one of my brothers, whose birthday it is, was going to school and we wanted to give him his presents before school. I spent the whole of Thursday afternoon wrapping his presents. Rufus bought him a rack to hold his CDs. Rufus could hardly hold it it was so big. That afternoon my brother brought home five friends to sleep over. He was turning seventeen. My mom and I made all sorts of food as he wanted to braai. Rufus did not like the music as it was too loud and hurt his ears, but he still did a lot of dancing. Rufus says he wants to stay with me forever as our house is very exciting and we have a lot of birthdays.

We put magic candles on it that do not blow out, they keep relighting. I had a slither of cake and had to do lots of swimming after that. Today Rufus watched me at my swimming lesson. I made a tent in the garden with my brother and pretended my four dogs were wild animals. My three Labradors were lions and my German Shepherd was a wild dog. We even made a mini braai and braaied tomatoes. Rufus at them all. That evening a friend of ours who is a game ranger, came to stay at our house. I let him sleep in my bedroom. Rufus and I had to sleep in my brother's bedroom. My mom made him a very fancy meal. We had lamb shanks and I ate too much. When my mom tested me at 10:00 p.m. my blood sugars were 20.0. I won't do that again!

Luckily when I woke up this morning my level was 6.8. Rufus was pleased with me. Rufus' blood sugar was 6.9. We took our friend out for breakfast. I was good and had muesli and yogurt. I only ate half the bowl so that my sugar levels would not go high.

Rufus was very excited. Today he went to school with me. I told all my friends in my class about Rufus and they all wanted to touch his patches. I was so lucky, my mom worked in the tuckshop and for a special treat Rufus and I had a hot dog. My mom had to give me 2 units of Humalog first and the rest of the day my blood levels were great. I am so sad because today is Rufus' last day with me. I hope he will come and visit me soon. Love you Rufus, Samantha.
