Santana family, Brooklyn, New York

April 5, 2001
Rufus arrived in Brooklyn! What excitement! Stevie came home from school and tested his own blood sugar and then Rufus'. Both were in range. Gabrielle, Steven and Rufus had a light snack, and then the boys played LEgo. We ate dinner, watched a little TV together, and then Steven, Rufus, and about 50 close friends (stuffed animals) settled down for the night.

April 6, 2001
Rufus had to get up early today to go to school with Steven. Mrs. Hough's first grade class was very happy to see him. Steven spent about 20 minutes telling his class all about Rufus and his travels. He told a bit about Diabetes, and answered his friend's questions. Then he took Rufus to meet the Principal, Mr. Soffer and the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Samuels. Rufus got to go to Dance class too! He and Steven had a juice box first, so they didnt go too low.

April 7, 2001
Tonight is the first night of Passover, and Rufus gets to go to Grandma's house for dinner. We all ate so much-Rufus and the kids had lots of extra blood checks! There were so many people, I think Rufus was a bit overwhelmed.

April 8, 2001
Everyone slept late today, it was great! We had a very relaxing day. Gabi and Steve thought Rufus needed some down time. Had company for lunch, friends from Boston who were in for the weekend. Lunch was great-Brooklyn bagels! Kids fought over who got to sleep with Rufus tonight. Steven won.

April 9, 2001
Rufus got to spend the day with Andy (dad) today while we ran errands and went to the playground. What a beautiful day! Around 75 degrees! Mom's so fair, she got sunburned. Rufus went to our support group tonight. He was shy, and just sat back, taking it all in.

April 10, 2001
Bye Rufus! We loved having you! Off to Canada to vivit with the Oringers!
