The Hornby Family, Oliver, British Columbia, Canada
January 25, 2002
Rufus has finally arrived at the Hornby's in Oliver, British Columbia! Mom picked him up from the post office and brought him straight to school and tried looking for me. Finally, Mom got Mrs. Williams at the office to call me over the loud speaker. I went to the office and Mom got me to open the box. Rufus was sure happy to be out of the box. We showed him to the principal and the vice principal, and even found my older brother, Matthew. Rufus, Mom and I went to class at 1:00 and I got to show him and his picture book to the class. My teacher Mr. Surovy read the book come home Rufus. The kids really liked him. After school dad finally got to meet Rufus. We watched a movie because it was cold and windy outside. We had soup and spagetti for dinner. Rufus was real high from the traveling 24.5 (443) and I was 2.7 (49). Rufus is used to the way we measure our blood sugar in mmol.

My cousin Jolene came at 8 am and thought Rufus was really cool. She comes to our house while mom is at work. At 11, we went to drop Jolene off to her mom for soccer and got to show Rufus off to everyone at the butcher shop. Grandpa really liked Rufus. After, we took Rufus to my grandma's. She wants to make him some slippers and a hat because it is so cold outside. It is -8. We go home and have lunch. At 2:30 we go get Jolene. We play inside for a while. Matthew gets home at 4:00 from Cadet first aid training and we play some more.

It is another cold day outside and we just bum around the house. My great aunt Doreen and great uncle Don come for a visit after church. They thought Rufus was priceless and loved all his pins and the patches sewn on him.

The kids are being real mean at school and Rufus ended up in Michael's locker all day. Rufus will stay home the rest of the week. At 9 years old kids don't walk around with stuffed animals. I feel sorry for Rufus. He will have fun at home with me (mom) during school the rest of the week. Josh, Michael, and Rufus go out to play. Rufus comes in when the boys go scootering.

Rufus gets to come to karate with me and sits on Mom's lap to watch. He sure wants to come do the moves with us. Rufus got his hat and slippers today. He is feeling much warmer.

Mom neglected Rufus all morning. Matthew is real sick with an asthma attack from a cold he and Mom have. Mom had to take Matt to the hospital for a treatment. Rufus was happy when I got home. We played inside with Matthew, Jolene, Dylan, and Josh.

Matthew is feeling better but stays home and plays lego and watches movies with Rufus all day. Rufus was happy to have played all day. We go to karate again tonight. It is late at night (10:00) and we are all still awake. I get sent to Mom's bed with Rufus because Matthew cannot stop coughing. Mom takes him to the hospital for another treatment. I fell asleep not long after and Dad had to wake me and Rufus up at 11 because we were low. I go back in Mom's bed.
February 1, 2002 Rufus and I woke up in my bed and we don't remember being moved. Matthew stays home to play with Rufus again. When Jolene, Josh and I get home, we all play with Matthew and Rufus and the legos. It is a quiet evening since we are tired from our late night.

It is just the four of us and Rufus today. Jolene went to Grandma's. We finished building our lego bots today and watched a movie. Matthew and Mom still feel sick. I just hope me and Rufus don't get sick. Rufus and I even got to go on the Internet. Both our supper numbers were real bad cause today was so quiet. I was 18.0 (324) and Rufus was 16.2 (292)

Mom and Matthew are better. Matthew goes to church with Grandma. Mom tries to get me to go but I don't like to sit for so long. After lunch dad takes us to spend the afternoon with Grandma. Rufus likes it there. We all do some baking. Then grandma teaches Rufus and me some more about the needlepoint I like to do at her house. Then Matthew Rufus and I kick a ball around for a while til mom picks us up.
