The Stewart Family, Antelope, California
May 20, 2001
I arrived safe and sound for my fun filled trip to see the Stewart family in Antelope, right outside the California State capital of Sacramento. I was carefully unpacked by my new friend Bailee Stewart and her mom Julie. Bailee told me that she has had diabetes for about 10 months. She was diagnosed about a month before her third birthday. Even though diabetes is really yucky, it's nice to know that someone else knows what I feel like.
Bailee and I did lots of fun stuff together. One of the best parts of my trip was when the Editor of the Antelope News (a monthly community paper) said she would do a story about my visit. She even took some pictures of Bailee and me at the park together. I hope the newspaper story makes people more aware of diabetes and all of the stuff me and my friends have to go through, and also through all this we are still just normal kids (and bears!).
I met lots of Bailee's friends and family. They were all so nice. I especially liked to play with Bailiee's five year old brother Austin. Bailee wants me to come back and visit in the fall when she goes to preschool. I am going to try to do that. I'm off to Southern California now to see the Gennaro family.
We'll miss you Rufus, have safe travels.
