Well, Rufus, what a welcome! You no more than arrive at our door, than we take Christopher to Children's Medical Center Emergency Room, where we are admitted to the almost home unit. Christopher had a stomach virus that led to dehydration and ketones. Rufus was a big help while Christopher got his IV started.(Christopher, as long as he has been diabetic, still can't stand the sight of needles, especially those that belong to a blood test or an IV.) Rufus and Christopher spent the night watching the Disney Channel, a real treat for Christopher since we don't have cable.

Rufus and Christopher are home now. We will spend a quiet day at home resting up. We want to have plenty of energy for Christmas. Christopher and Rufus checked their sugar and ketones often to make sure there would be no more trips to the hospital.

Christopher and Rufus went to a Dayton Bombers game today. That's Dayton's Hockey Team! They had their picture taken with Bucky Beaver, the Bombers mascot. Rufus enjoyed the game, but wasn't too crazy about the fights that broke out. Dayton won 3-2. Christopher and Rufus got to watch everyone eat junk food at the game. That is always hard for them. The snacks are not healthy or necessarily at the right time for Christopher or Rufus to join in. Rufus fell asleep on the ride home. It makes for a late night. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. It will be a busy day. Sleep tight Rufus.

Well, it's Christmas Eve and the excitement in the house it quite evident. We promised Rufus and the kids they could open one present after church this evening. Rufus and the kids thought the Church service was really beautiful-but a little long. They got to open one present and begged to open more. Just wait. Tomorrow is Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Rufus! We hope you enjoyed opening your gifts. We are spending a quiet Christmas at home. It seems everyone we would normally visit is ill. I hope Rufus doesn't get sick. They all enjoy spending the day playing with their Christmas presents. P.S. It snowed!

Christopher took Rufus to the Wright B Flyer museum. In case you don't know, the Wright B Flyer was the first airplane, built by Orville and Wilbur Wright. Rufus enjoyed sitting in the airplane with Christopher. It certainly made a nice picture.

Christopher and Rufus went to the United States Air Force Museum. They spent most of the time in the WWII section looking at the different types of airplanes that were flown in the war. They also checked out the modern day airplanes. Rufus said his favorite airplane was the F-22. If you haven't figured it out, Dayton is known for its airplanes and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Christopher was invited to a birthday party. He wrangled an invitation for Rufus, too. It was a skating party. Rufus was too cool on roller skates. Christopher's friend, Christopher, has a little brother named Jonathan who is diabetic. We got Jonathan to pose on skates with Rufus. The worst part of the party for Christopher and Rufus was not being allowed to have the pizza at the party and all the late night snacks for the sleep over part. The party started too late to let the pizza be their dinner, and we make it a rule not to let Christopher eat late night snacks. It really screws up his readings. He and Rufus did end up going low after all the skating (even with a juice before skating started). They ended up having another juice and a protein before bed. All and all, though, it was a fun birthday party.

The last couple of days have been pretty routine, cartoons, errands, church and of course, just relaxing since we are still on break. Blood sugars have been stable. There have been no major surprises. Tonight is the New Year's Eve Party. Every year we go to a friend's house and have snacks, games, and just talk. We are anxious to show off Rufus and tell of his exploits.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We had a great time ringing in the New Year. We did lots of snacking. Rufus, Christopher, and his friend Douglas, had to limit their snacking and check their blood sugars frequently since staying up late usually cause them to go low-but no problems last night. We did lots of talking and played games, too. We watched Dick Clark ring in the New Year. Rufus enjoyed his non-alcoholic champagne to toast 2002 and the party favors. We all stayed up until 2:00 a.m. Today, after sleeping in until 8:00 a.m., Rufus is packing and getting ready for his trip to Florida. We hope you enjoy the warm temperatures (highs here have been in the 20's). We send you with our blessings. We will miss you, Rufus.
