• We welcome Advantage Health Services, a mail order pharmacy specializing in diabetes products, as the new sponsor of the Products pages.

• Restrictions have been placed on searching the Friends database to reduce the risk of third parties gathering large numbers of e-mail addresses for the purpose of sending unsolicited commercial e-mail. You will be able to run 10 searches, each of which returns 10 answers, in a given 30 minute period. After that, you will be required to wait 30 minutes before you run another search. Recent incidents in which companies selling diabetes-related products have sent commercial e-mail messages to people in the Friends database have made this restriction an unfortunate necessity.

• The Diabetes Team answered 114 questions last month, bringing the total number of questions answered to 1,787. Can we answer your question about diabetes?

• Chris Hill, a 10-year old boy with diabetes, likes to play soccer and is interested in the pump.

• Meghan is 3 years old and likes to play Barbies and watch Barney.

• Judy Smith writes about her son, Stuart.

• In Badge of Courage, Sheryl Hill shares with us the challenge that her son Tyler had being accepted by other kids in school.

• A Mother's Moment In Time recounts one mother's experience with her son's diagnosis and her discovery of support via the Internet.

• Camps for Children with Diabetes with updated information this week for the 1998 camping season include:
  • Camp Clara Barton, which provides summer residential camping for girls ages 6-16 with diabetes, a coed Adventure Camp for high school students with diabetes, and year-round weekend programs for youth with diabetes, families and friends.

    Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania offers excitement for kids with diabetes.

  • Camp KUDOS, a day camp for kids with diabetes ages four through 13 who live near Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • Camp Setebaid, a camp for kids 8 to 14 in Pennsylvania.

• The Featured Book of the Week is Fast Food Facts by Marion. Franz, MS, RD, LD, CDE.

• Manual Guia para Personas con Diabetes esta es la tercera edición de un libro creado para personas con diabetes y sus familias. El propósito es proveer información fidedigna en un formato útil y fácil de leer.

• The Family Education Network reports on Sorbitol and Diarrhea in Young Children.

• The University of California San Francisco is pleased to announce a new series of Diabetes Symposia for patients and their families. This one day course will be taught primarily by UCSF faculty who specialize in diabetes care and consist of about 12 lectures. The focus of the May 16, 1998 symposium will be "Diabetes in Children."

• TRANSMEDICA announces clinical trial results for its laser blood sampling device.
